The classroom 2

Students often get confused when discussing the meaning of teaching strategies, teaching methods and teaching technique so here i would explain each of them in the way i understand. Teaching strategies are the styles used by a teacher to keep students motivated and engaged in class activities and also to make teaching easier. Teaching methods refer to the general principles or a target plan used for classroom instructions. here, teaching is done in a systematic and organized way. Teaching technique is a precise style or concrete procedures that must be followed by teachers with the intent on reaching their goals

The classroom

Teaching which is the profession of a teacher simply refers to the activities of educating or imparting knowledge to students. Every teacher has a goal which he/she must achieve at the end of every class lesson. Whatever style used by the teacher to achieve such goals and also to make learning easier for the students can be referred to as 'Teaching strategies'. Jigsaw is a type of teaching strategy. In this case the teacher divides the students into small groups called home groups and assign different topics to each student in the group and assign the same topics in the same order to students in another home group and ask them to make research on their topics after he has done that another group called the expert group would be made but this time it would consist of those with similar topics in the home groups. 9ja no dey carry last

My most interesting lecture today was my GS 208 lecture which was a debate. The topic of the debate was 'Niger No Dey Carry Last' of course we had the proposing and opposing team and the first point was from the proposing team and it was quite interesting. the lady who spoke said and i quote her " with the limited job opportunities we have here in Nigeria, we still have millions of students who apply for admission into various tertiary institutions across the country so that they can acquire the knowledge they need for self employment" and the second point came from the opposing team and it was also interesting. the lady who spoke said and i quote her "Nigeria is blessed with a lot of mineral resources most especially crude oil but yet we export this oil so it can be refined and import it back to the country, paying huge amount of money for it and most times we suffer from fuel scarcity and you tell me niger no dey carry last". Actually both points are good ...

The rise of Okeke hostel

ifeoma.ihunyere.200357@unn.edu.ng  I took a walk to Fidelity bank today and i noticed the progress made in the renovation of Okeke hostel. This hostel that was almost burnt to the ground on a cold evening in December 2015 was seen as one of the best hostels in UNN because it had sufficient water supply and rarely had electricity issues. The fire outbreak led to the loss of properties of many occupants and fortunately no loss of life. the students affairs department did a good job in re-allocating those affected new hostels and passing by the once great hostel today, it dawned on me that the school authorities are making great efforts in restoring Okeke hostel to its former glory.
